Embracing the Pro Tools Generation
Graham Cochrane over at The Recording Revolution has summed it up perfectly. Today’s generation of musicians, producers, and engineers don’t have any experience using analog gear for mixing. And they don’t need it either. This is the Pro Tools generation.
Listeners don’t care if you mixed their favorite song on analog gear or did so entirely inside-the-box. Good music and good mixing will shine regardless of the technology. Same goes for bad music too.
Pro Tools is another disruptive technology. Read Bob Lefsetz’s recent column about this and you’ll understand why the old guard in the music industry might be nervous of the Pro Tools generation.
